And now the story, the long one:
Lombrello is a creative design studio based in Milan and born from the desire to design while having fun. In our opinion, every project - at any scale - needs irony , color and provocation, to be unique and recognizable. At the same time, we could not imagine designing without doing 360 ° research, without experimenting with the materials we fall in love with, without measuring ourselves against the questions that production imposes on us and without talking to the artisans who allow us to transform our designs into products. We have a thousand ideas that whirl in our minds and, every day, we have fun to make them real!
In 2018, on the occasion of the Salone del Mobile, the first Lombrello was born Chair , a completely customizable chair that in the following months was joined by a real family of seats. Each of them, designed for a different occasion of use, starts from a simple and essential design to rediscover its true identity in that of the user. This is precisely the key to the ability to customize colors and materials of each single Lombrello chair: the desire that everyone can realize it as needed, as he loves it, as he dreams of it.
Non it's just a chair to put in the trolley, but it's the chair made in your image and likeness.
Who's under the umbrella?
Under the umbrella lies its cheerful founder Andrea Forapani . Born in 1987 and Venetian in his DNA, he toured Europe a bit during his training as an architect, studying at the Mendrisio Academy and working in Berlin, Basel and Paris. During his training he allowed himself to be contaminated by European masters, starting with the Eames couple up to Hans Wegner, passing through Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Verner Panton. However, the desire to give life to a new and different project brought him back to Italy to dialogue with our workers and compete with our masters. Over time, from the confrontation with his interlocutors and from the observation of what surrounds him, he has realized more and more clearly that there is a hot topic that is often ignored in the design of spaces and everyday objects. This theme is identity, that of those who live in a space or that of those who choose an object to make it their own. From that moment on, every design could not help but start from this prerogative: synthetic (but not anonymous) projects that can be sewn on the user.
Lombrello is Made in Italy < / h1>
Behind the scenes of Lombrello there is a network of precious artisans capable of making our project a reality. All production is in Italy, in particular between Lombardy and Veneto. This makes us proud also because it allows us to reduce, in our small way, the displacements of our components.
Gianluca together with his father Franco , both masters of curved wood, mold birch wood to become the backrest and seat of our chairs. In a laboratory in the province of Verona suspended between tradition and innovation, he gives the plywood the right curvature, he obtains our shapes through the pantograph, he finishes them by hand so that every detail is clean. And then move on to the upholstery, with Abet laminate or Alpi wood, or prepare the pieces to be padded. But here another story begins.
The story of Franco who, a few hundred meters from Gianluca's workshop, upholsters and covers the wooden components of the versions in velvet or fabric. It ensures that the padding precisely follows the curvature of the pieces, that the upholstery adheres to it perfectly and that every single seam or rat tail is made with care.
